Having made a sensational debut with Jaane Tu…, Bollywood's new chocolate cream sensation, Imran Khan, will now top line his uncle Aamir Khan's next production.
Ever since Ranbir Kapoor opted out of the lead role in the film, citing date conflicts caused by production delays, Aamir had been searching for a suitable replacement. Or so it seemed!
It now turns out that the search was actually a wait; Aamir wanted to gauge audience reaction to Imran in Jaane Tu… before signing him up for his Delhi Belly.
"Aamir always had Imran at the back of his mind but was vary of how the audience would connect with him in his debut film," our source tells us. "But since the verdict is now out, loud and clear, in Imran's favor, Aamir has decided to go with him."
Interestingly, Aamir, who has been guiding Imran's career, wants the 25-year-old to shed his chocolate cream hero image before it sticks to him!
"Aamir wants Imran to experiment with every film and not get stuck in a lover boy image. Delhi Belly is a sex comedy and the character of the protagonist will be surprisingly different from what audiences expect of Imran. Aamir wants Imran to surprise everyone," adds our source.
The search for the heroine is meanwhile still on after Chitrangada Singh declined Aamir's offer saying, "Though it has a great script, it didn't work out for me. The director looks at the film in a certain way and I respect his decision."
"Aamir is busy auditioning new girls for this part," our source says.
Aamir Khan Productions officials refused to comment on our news story.
The shooting for Delhi Belly begins in September and is scheduled to be completed in one long schedule in Delhi.
