August 14, 2008 (Sawf News) - His debut film Saawariya catapulted him to stardom, despite having failed at the box office. With Bachna Ae Haseeno he hopes to consolidate his position in Bollywood. In a brief tête-à-tête with Sawf News, Ranbir Kapoor came through as poised and confident.
As a fourth generation Kapoor he has a daunting reputation to live up to. Besides their love for food the Kapoors are known to be die hard romantics, at least on screen. So that was the first question on our mind.
Both your films Saawariya and Bachna Ae Haseeno have you playing romantic roles. Is this a conscious effort of any sorts to create a romantic hero image like your father, Rishi Kapoor?
I can just call myself plain lucky that my first two films were with prestigious banners and with extremely romantic films. But professionally speaking I do not want to stick to a particular genre. I am just 25 years old and I want to go with the best from whatever is offered to me. Also I am being offered roles that suit my age but are not romantic from any angle. Both my parents were huge youth icons during their heydays. As actors they were extremely spontaneous and developed their own style. In today's times, there are many romantic pairs. I am just two films old. I think it is too early for me to decide which films I will be comfortable with since I have not the time or inclination to sit and introspect. However, I would like to add that I am a great Rishi Kapoor fan. I would certainly love to share some screen space with them. It would be fun.
'Bachna Ae Haseeno' looks like a film about relationships. How do you look at relationships?
I am part of today's generation. I have also been into relationships out of which some worked while some of them just did not. But it is hard to forget them. They become a part of your life so their memories often linger in your heart. However, I value each relationship that I have had. For me love is something that happens spontaneously in the spur of a moment. But I strongly believe that one has to maintain it and work towards building the relationship. You cannot take it for granted. You have to give a lot and adjust a lot to maintain it.
You had earlier announced that you would like to revive your home banner, the legendary R.K.Films. What is the update on that?
We are working on a few scripts right now. If something interesting turns up we will definitely make a film. But right now I just want to do good work. I am looking forward to some great films ahead. There's 'Rajneeti' with Prakash Jha, Karan Johar's next tentatively titled 'Wake Up Sid', Rajkumar Santoshi's 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' for which I have already started shooting, Shimit Amin's 'Rocket Singh', Sajid Nadiadwala next to be directed by Siddharth Anand along with Saif and Vikramjit Singh's 'Mera Jahan'.
