August 14, 2008 (Sawf News) - Having made a dream debut in a lead role opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone surprisingly opted for a three heroine film with relative newcomer, Ranbir Kapoor, as her next project.
Will Bachna Ae Haseeno turn out to be a snake or ladder in Deepika quest to reach the top, we wondered?
What made you take up a three heroine project as your second film?
Honestly speaking, Ranbir was one of the reasons why I took up this film. I was very excited to be paired opposite him plus it was being directed by Siddharth Anand whose 'Salaam Namaste' I had loved and above all it was a Yash Raj Film.
How it was sharing Ranbir Kapoor with two other heroines?
I did not share screen space with them (Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba) because Ranbir is seen romancing the three of us in different stages of life. We are both professionals and realize that it is a part of acting so it does not hold any importance whom he shares screen space with. At the end of the day we want to be part of good cinema.
What have you to say about working along with Ranbir?
We both are just a film old we have learnt a lot from each other. His take on cinema and approach is very different since he's worked behind the camera as well. He understands even the small nuances of filmmaking. It was a lot of give and take situation for both of us. However, I must confess that Ranbir is a fantastic dancer and its really tough matching up with him. But we had a great time working together.
You appear in your second twin twin role, after 'Om Shanti Om,' in your next release, 'Chandni Chowk To China'. Tell us something about it?
I cannot reveal anything more at this stage about CCTC but yes it was an extremely challenging role as I am doing action for the first time. Talking about doing a double role, it is indeed a test of one's acting skills bringing variation to both the roles. However, I would like to add that I have gained a lot of confidence doing a twin role at this stage of my career.
