August 20, 2008 (Sawf News) - Though he is a devout Muslim, Salman Khan's respect for all religions is evident in his paintings as well as film and TV appearances.

A majority of his paintings portray religious integration. For instance, there is one which has the image of Jesus Christ and that of a mosque together.

Apart from his paintings, in real life too Salman shows respect to all religions and often expresses his feelings on the subject on his blog and during his reality TV game show 10 Ka Dum.

Salman is playing the role of a turbaned Sikh in Samir Karnik's Heroes. A source in the film's unit has this to tell us:

"Salman refrained from smoking his cigarettes whenever he was in his Sikh character's attire on the sets. When his co-stars and director of the film, Samir Karnik, asked him the reason, he told them that Sikhs generally don't smoke as they are prohibited by their religion.

"When unit members suggested that he was just an actor playing a Sikh and so was not to be bound by the edicts of the religion, Salman stuck to his ground insisting that he would defer to the turban while he was wearing it.

So while unit members would see Salman puffing away on cigarettes while arriving at or leaving the set, once he wore his turban it was No Smoking for him."

Salman's mother is a Hindu Maharashtrian and his father a Muslim. His brothers have married out of religion too: Sohail Khan is married to a Hindu and Arbaaz Khan to a Christian. The Khan household is known to celebrate every single festival with equal gusto.
