September 11, 2009, (Sawf News) - Chitrangada Singh will be seen in Navdeep Singh helmed Basra, her first action film and pairing with Abhay Deol.
Singh's character is a woman on the run. Abhay Deol, who earlier worked with Navdeep in Manorama Six Feet Under, replaces Akshaye Khanna in the film as the male protagonist.
Chitrangada, who has moved to Mumbai to pursue her acting career, will undergo intense training to shape up for the action sequences in the film.
"Now that I've permanently moved to Mumbai, producers have begun to take me more seriously. Earlier, they weren't too sure whether or not I was serious about my career as I used to shuttle between Mumbai and Delhi," Chitrangada told Mumbai Mirror.
Chitrangada's husband, golfer Jyoti Singh continues to be in Delhi, as a requirement of his career.
"There aren't that many golf courses in Mumbai and my choice was clear if I wanted to seriously pursue an acting career. I'll try to synchronize my schedules with his tournaments so that we're together whenever he isn't playing.
"After eight years of marriage we don't have to be together constantly. There's enough mutual trust for us to be in different cities without wondering what the other is up to."
Basra, produced by Nikhil Advani, is based on the Iraqi town Basra. The film is based around post 9/11. Basra was in the line of fire when the Americans invaded Iraq to over throw Saddam Hussein's regime.
The music of the film, scored by Kilash Kher, will have Arabic influences due to its middle east setting.
