November 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - Taylor Swift won five awards from six nominations and Michael Jackson four from five nominations at the 2009 American Music Awards in Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on Sunday, November 22.

Swift, 19, won for best female Pop/Rock Favorite Female Artist, Country Favorite Female Artist, Country Favorite Album, Adult Contemporary - Favorite Artist and Artiste of the Year.

She thanked her fans from across the pond in London over a satellite hookup. The time there was 2 AM. She is performing at Wembley Arena, in the city on Monday, November 23.

"I will never be able to say how much I love you," Swift told her fans.

Michael Jackson won four awards from five nominations – Pop/Rock Favorite Male Artist and Soul/R&B Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock Favorite Album and Soul/R&B Favorite Album - bringing his lifetime AMA tally to 25, the most by any single artist.

His 2003 greatest-hits album, Number Ones, won him the two honors in the album categories.

Jermaine Jackson, accepted two of Michael's four awards and thanked "Allah for blessing my entire family." He named each of his brothers and sisters in his acceptance speech.

"The message that Michael had will live on forever," he said. "He saw good in everyone and he wanted everyone to do good. He always started with love."

The other multiple award winners were The Black Eyed Peas, named favorite group in both the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories, and Jay-Z who won favorite male artist and favorite album in the rap/hip-hop categories.

Janet Jackson opened the event paying a spirited tribute to her late brother Michael Jackson performing a medley of her past hits - Control, What Have You Done For Me Lately, Miss You Much and If - and her new track – Make Me which includes the title of Michael's Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough in its lyrics.

Other highlights of the event included Stellar live performances from Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez. The night also marked Whitney Houston's return to stage singing "I Didn't Know My Own Strength," Eminem and 50 Cent performing "Crack a Bottle" and the finale with Adam Lambert's first live television show since " American Idol."

Artists were honored in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational.
