January 31, 2010, (Sawf News) - A tribute and a Lifetime Achievement award to Michael Jackson, accepted by his eldest two children, was the highlight of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards at on Sunday, January 31.
Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song 'We Are the World' with Michael Jackson, presented the tribute to him by Celion Dion, Smokey Robinson, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, and Carrie Underwood.
Jackson's children, Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of their father escorted by family members. Prince gave a short acceptance speech stumbling at one point as he struggled to keep his emotions in check. Paris too managed a couple of lines, choosing to stop before losing her composure.
It was also a big night for Beyoncé who won six Grammys and and Taylor Swift who won 4.
The awards ceremony included some breath taking performances, including those by Lady Gaga and Pink.
The event opened with a duet by Sir Elton John and Lady Gaga singing Gaga's "Speechless" with a few verses of John's 1970 hit "Your Song" worked in.
Swift, who was nominated in eight categories, won two Grammys during the pre-telecast part of the event: Best Country Song ("White Horse") with songwriter Liz Rosewith, and Best Female Country Vocal (White Horse).
She received the first Grammy of her life away from the cameras that were then focused on the red carpet.
"This is my first Grammy, you guys," she said, while accepting the award. "I mean, this is a Grammy! I live in awe of the people I was nominated against in this category."
Later, during the main ceremony, she walked up the stage to receive her first Grammy award on national TV for the Best Country Album Fearless. She also won Album of the Year for Fearless at the very end of the event.
