July 21, 2008 (Sawf News) - With her second studio album Breakout set to release tomorrow, July 22, Miley Cyrus is poised and confident about her place in this world, and is looking ahead, not over her shoulders at other emerging teen competition such as Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.
Speaking about the album, which for the first time features her as just Miley not Hannah Montanna and goes beyond entertaining just kids, Miley told Extra:
"I wanted to embrace my older audience a little more... kind of taking shackles off and doing the music I wanted to do... they are the things I want to say to the world."
Miley knows she has carved out a place for herself and doesn't feel threatened.
"People are looking up to what I do. But, I don't think there could be a next Miley," she tells Extra. "I think they should be the next Selena, Demi. Make their own way."
Miley gets a lot of media attention not all of which is flattering. Her teenaged exuberance gets her mired in controversies such as a provocative photo shoot for Vanity Fair magazine in April, and the leak on the internet of risqué photos of herself that she took with a phone camera.
Miley sees the media attention the way it is. "At first I kind of always wanted it... then once it started happening to me it's not so cool anymore... instead of putting negativity to it, I'm taking the opportunity to make it a positive thing."
