September 6, 2008 (Sawf News) - Though Britney Spears is not scheduled to perform at Sunday's MTV VMAs, just kick off the event, a video surfaced on Friday, September 5, showing Britney and her backup dancers rehearsing to a previously unheard track.
The video has created a lot of buzz and speculation about the nature of Britney's surprise opening act.
Earlier, on Thursday, Britney announced through a statement that she will be opening the awards show.
"MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?" Britney said in a statement to People. "I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."
Britney has been nominated for three MTV VMA this year for "Piece of Me": MTV video of the year, Best Pop Video and Best Female Video.
The 26-year-old popstar has never won a VMA despite 16 nominations in her career.
The VMAs air live on Sunday, September 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from Los Angeles.
