Kidman, who rarely discusses her son, has previously said of her children and acting: "It has to come from within, because that's what acting is. It's in your blood. It runs through you."
Her approach may put her at odds with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Cruise has had the former couple's adopted teens, Connor and Isabella, living with him in Los Angeles. He has called driving Connor to his first screen audition a "great father-son moment".
Connor was recently signed on to act in the feature film Red Dawn. He recently had a high-profile role in the Will Smith film Seven Pounds.
Kidman now primarily resides in Nashville with her second husband Keith Urban and Sunday Rose, who is one.
