Witherspoon was seen in casual dress with a gold diamond ring on her left ring finger. A representative for the actress, however, said it is merely decorative.
The actress was seen over summer holidaying in Europe with Gyllenhaal, who appears smitten by her charms.
Witherspoon was formerly married to actor Ryan Phillippe. In recent days she has been seen out and about with her daughter Ava, who appears to be growing into the spitting image of her mum.
Initially a romcom star, Witherspoon is these days one of Hollywood's top-earning actresses and is known for her dramatic performance in Walk the Line.
