February 08, 2010, (Sawf News) - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have sued UK's New of the World (NOTW) over its January 24 report alleging that the couple was poised to split.
In a statement issued on Monday, Jolie and Pitt's London based lawyer, Keith Schilling, said the report was false and the couple had commenced proceedings against the tabloid for making "false allegations about their relationship."
"We can confirm unequivocally ... that the allegations published by the News of the World are false as well as intrusive," said Schilling.
"The News of the World has failed to meet our clients' reasonable demands for a retraction of and apology for these false and intrusive allegations which have now been widely republished by mainstream news outlets," Schilling, says in the statement.
"We have advised them to bring proceedings, which they have now done."
In its story, NOTW had reported that Jolie and Pitt consulted LA based divorce attorney Sorrell Trope over equitably splitting their $330 million worth of assets.
Schilling included a denial from Trope in his statement.
"I have had no contact from...Angelina Jolie and/or Brad Pitt," he said. "I have never met...your clients or had any involvement with either of them. The foregoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm."
Interestingly, NOTW has removed the offending report from its website.
