July 09, 2009, (Sawf News) - Working women are riding out the recession with affordable cosmetic treatments, like botox injections and dermal filler, putting off expensive cosmetic surgeries like facelifts and breast implants for better times.

Losing your looks while waiting for the economic crunch to be over isn't an option for many women, even those struggling to make mortgage payments.

Cosmetic surgeries can make you look years younger and add to your confidence at the work, but they can be woefully expensive for many of us. Breast implants can cost between $6,000 and $7,000, and "mommy makeovers" like abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, about $8,000, including the surgeon's fee, operating room and anesthetic costs.

It isn't surprising cosmetic surgeries are down across the spectrum. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Arlington Heights, Ill., Liposuction took the biggest hit with a 19 percent drop in 2008 compared to 2007. Tummy tucks followed with an 18 percent decline, while breast augmentation surgeries dropped 12 percent.

The demand for relatively inexpensive cosmetic treatments, however, hasn't been adversely affected by the recession. Laser skin-resurfacing is up 15% and Botox injections up 8% from 2007.

Botox treatments start at about $475, take less than a minute and can be performed during a lunch break.

Dr. Henry Sandel, who runs a facial plastic surgery practice on Lubrano Drive in Annapolis, told hometownannapolis.com that he's seen a roughly 30 percent increase in Botox treatments and injectable wrinkle "fillers" from the first quarter to the second quarter of this year.
