October 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - Honda displayed its EV-N concept, an all electric plug-in car, at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show 2009.
Honda, which stole a lead with hydrogen fuel cell cars, is now shifting focus to all electric cars.
The cost of hydrogen fuel cells and the lack of support infrastructure such as hydrogen fueling stations has slowed the automakers push for fuel cell powered cars.
"Hydrogen fuel-cell cars will prove to be the best in the end," says Honda CEO Takanobu Ito.
"Electric vehicles will also be a core option for cars in the future," he added.
The EV-N is a two door small car with retro looks. It features a solar roof to augment plug-in battery charging.
Other new concepts being evaluated include swappable seat fabric system and communication technologies that connect the driver with pedestrians. For example, lights in the front grille, side mirrors and rear light up in varying patterns when EV-N starts, stops and performs other actions.
