March 18, 2010, (Sawf News) - Google has teamed up with Sony, Intel, Logitech and some other companies to develop internet TV devices based on its Android operating system.

The existence of the project, referred to as Google TV, was reported by the New York Times reported on Wednesday, March 17.

Google will provide the software toolkit to develop applications for the devices, Sony its TV expertise, Intel its Atom processor, and Logitech peripheral devices.

Google TV will allow you to abstract web applications such as Twitter and Picassa as TV channels.

Google initially developed the open source Android OS for use on smartphones, but has since extended support to other devices including netbooks.

Sony, which already has a TV in the market that allows streaming of internet content, will now develop a new range of TVs and set top boxes powered by Intel's Atom processor and based on Google's Android OS.

Sources tell the New York Times that the Google TV project has been underway for several months now.

Logitech is creating the dedicated peripherals including a remote with a built in keyboard.

None of the companies in the alliance have acknowledged the existence of the project.

Google is reportedly already testing a set top box with Dish Network.
