Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in a scene from Chup Chup Ke
Kareena Kapoor, who missed being at the Cannes Film Festival with the Omkara team there to promote the film, is having a blast on the US leg of the Rock Star Concerts tour, where her fans are keeping her on a high. The Rock Star concerts have Shahid and Kareena together in one of the acts which Kareena says is a huge success. She is reported to have said, "Everywhere we go the screams of the audiences follow us. I tell you it is unreal. To watch them go insane after our performances gives me a high that I can't put into words."
Kareena is unfazed by the lukewarm reception of her recent film, 36 China Town, at the box office. Indeed, while speaking to The Hindustan Times she insisted that the film was actually doing quite well and had succeeded in getting a nod from the public to her pairing with Shahid!
Kareena is excited about her next release, Chup Chup Ke, in which she is once again paired with Shahid. The couple will still be on tour when the film is released on June 9. Kareena and Shahid saw 36 China Town in the US and they plan to viewChup Chup Ke, which will have a worldwide release, in UK.
Priyadarshan's Chup Chup Ke is a romantic comedy of errors, mistaken identities and debts to be repaid. Shahid's character, Jeetu, is that of a small town hustler who is constantly in debt and dodging creditors and money lenders. To save his family from any further shame, he drowns himself in the sea so that his family can claim money from his insurance and use it to pay back some of the debt.
Jeetu is saved by two fishermen, Bandya (Paresh Rawal) and Gundya (Rajpal Yadav), who mistakenly believe him to be a millionaire. They save his life only because they believe his rich family will be willing to pay for his safe return. They try to sell him to the moneylender, Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri), in exchange for the money they owe him. Fearing that he may reveal too much, Jeetu plays safe by pretending to be a deaf and mute.
Meanwhile, the marriage of the money lender's neice (Kareena), who is mute but not deaf, is fixed with a greedy bridegroom. She is unhappy and seeks Jeetus help to break up the marriage by pretending to be her lover...
Priyadarshan, who has acquired a reputation for making good comedies, has once again got a promising story line to work with. That and the fact that his Malamaal Weekly, released recently, did well at the box office having stayed at the top during its opening weeks, must ignite hopes within Kareena and Shahid of becoming a successful pair.
Kareena will return from her world tour on June 14 and head straight for Malaysia to shoot her dance sequence in Farhan Akhtar's remake of Don.
