After making what can only be described as a spectacular entry into Bollywood with back to back success in Parineeta (2005) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006) the girl lost her way, perhaps got conned into, doing two bit roles in films like Guru (2007), Salaam-E-Ishq (2007) and Eklavya: The Royal Guard (2007).
The problem with doing two bit roles, even when you are working with good actors and directors, is that even when the film succeeds, like Guru did, you don't get the credit for it!
However, if the film flops it hangs around your neck for ever like the albatross.
Vidya recently did appear in a lead role in the film Heyy Baby. While it is true the film didn't bomb at the box office it certainly isn't a film that anyone is talking about and as far as Vidya's role in it goes a reader on Rediff put it succinctly while commenting on the movie.
"Vidya Balan?? Only thing I noticed about her is that she had put on weight."
Vidya will be next seen in Priyadarshan's comic drama Bhool Bhulaiyaa set for release on October 12. She once again plays lead but incredibly enough against Shiney Ahuja!
Give us a break girl! The dude is a modeled square peg in the round hole that is Bollywood. There will always be crazy directors who will want to hammer him into that hole but he will eventually drop out.
Vidya, we think, should be playing lead roles against A-listers like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan not against a ‘who was that again’ Shiney Ahuja.
We don't think Vidya made a mistake when she turned down Konkana Sen Sharma's role in Laga Chunari Mein Daag but we do think she made a big mistake when she signed up for a bit role in in Eklavya, and Guru and Salaam-E-Ishq.
Someone needs to give the girl some good career advice. Better still someone needs to tell the lass to read what Sawf News writes about her!
