Ironically, Jab We Met was expected to demonstrate that their chemistry on screen could be as good as it was off screen.
Kareena and Shahid have been paired three times earlier (Fida, 36 China Town and Chup Chup K).without impressing the box office and their fans were hoping the sparks would fly in Jab We Met.
The promos for the film, shot in the hills of Himachal Pradesh and the princely state of Nabha, in Punjab, are impressive. Pritam's music in the film has been well received. The only problem is now even the off screen chemistry is history.
Shahid returned to Mumbai on Saturday 29 Sep 2007 after a month-and-a-half long stint in Toronto, Canada, filming for Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm.
According to the Mumbai Mirror, following his arrival Shahid avoided contact not with just his friends but even his father Pankaj Kapoor and mother Neelima Azim.
On Tuesday, he arrived at the studio for the patchwork shooting of the film which is slated for a worldwide on October 26. The director had discretely scheduled his solo scenes first to minimize the time he and Kareena would need to spend together.
When Kareena arrived around noon she came face to face with Shahid for the first time since she dumped him in absentia over the phone.
According to onlookers, the two conducted themselves calmly and professionally to an extent where it was difficult to believe anything was amiss.
However, the unceremonious dumping by Kareena and reports of her burgeoning romance with Saif Ali Khan must rankle with Shahid.
According to Mumbai tabloids Shahid hasn't been his usual self of late.
Kareena on the other hand continues to call the shots. Speaking to CNN-IBN she not only exuded confidence about the success of Jab We Met but was effusive with her praise for Shahid's growing acting abilities
"According to me he is a bundle of talent, which is waiting to explode. He can do any character or role, I have that much faith in him. Of the new crop I think he is an actor more than being a star, which I think is going to get tapped very soon."
What Kareena did not say was whether she considered herself an actor or a star?
Though she has never publicly acknowledged her breakup she certainly appears ready to move on.
Her focus is now on Yash Raj Films Tashan. She needed to shed a lot of weight for her role in it opposite Saif Ali Khan and it is moot if that weight included Shahid Kapoor!
