September 7, 2008 (Sawf News) - Righteous Kill, a Jon Avnet directed action and crime thriller starring talent powerhouses Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, will release worldwide, including India, on September 12, 2008.

Indian audiences will get to watch the film at the same time as its world wide release, thanks to the effort of Moserbaer.

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino have earlier featured together in The Godfather: Part II (1974) and Heat (1995).

De Niro says he had wished to perform alongside Pacino for some time, but "it's easier said than done" to make it happen.

He added, "I wish at times we had been more proactive, but we weren't. Life, you know?"

The original script called for an old cop and a younger cop, but after reading the script Robert De Niro, who was the first lead actor to sign on for the film, suggested Al Pacino for the part.

Pacino felt a connection with the troubled detective: "It's not in my guy's DNA (to retire). ... Probably, his ambition is to die on the job. Sort of like an actor."

The film additionally stars Donnie Wahlberg, and Curtis Jackson.

The plot of the film goes like this

After thirty years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the New York Police Department, highly decorated detectives Turk (Robert De Niro) and Rooster (Al Pacino) aren't ready to retire. There have been a series of murders of suspected criminals popping up around the city. The police know it's a serial killer because personalized poems are discovered on each body, an obvious clue to the motive.

CSI officer, Karen Corelli (Carla Gugino) is intrigued as she uncovers the rhythmic elegies placed on each victim. Detectives Perez (John Leguizamo) and Riley (Donnie Wahlberg) are hoping to solve the case before the old-timers, Turk & Rooster. Lt. Hingis (Brian Dennehy), their boss, just wants the case solved especially since evidence is pointing towards one of their own, a fellow cop.

Ever since the first victim, skateboard pimp Rambo (Rob Dyrdek), was found, followed by the setup to bust nightclub owner Spider (Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson) with the help of a Manhattan lawyer, Jessica (Trilby Glover), who has a drug problem, things are unraveling at the police department.

How can they stop this killer from enacting his or her own brand of justice for forms the rest of the story…
