October 27, 2008, (Sawf News) - While most of us covet material wealth this Diwali, by enticing Goddess Laxmi to our homes with brightly lit lamps, Bollywood's hottest debutante Adah Sharma will seek a spiritual glow spending her Diwali at the serene environs of Malavali Vedanta Ashram!
It is hard to associate spirituality with any 21-year-old, let alone a 21-year-old who has stormed into Bollywood with her debut appearance in the recent runaway hit 1920, and more recently wowed everyone walking the ramp for designer Nalandda Bhandari, looking resplendent and breathtakingly beautiful.
Like a lot of other Bollywood hotties, Adah bucks the trends but the surprise is the manner in which she does it.
Listen to her talk, and you will know what we are talking about!
"My dad will be making dinner for us (Mum and me) a day before Diwali," Adah tells Sawf News. "On diwali I won't be here. I will be going for 2 days to the Malavali Vedanta Ashram."
Adah's concept of Diwali is every different from the norm and she passionately told us why.
"It deeply pains me to see people enjoying Diwali at the expense of nature," she explains.
"I personally do not like to unnecessarily torture the environment since it has been very kind to me. I have never burnt/burst crackers as I don't like to contribute to sound and air pollution.
"I am also aware that the children who are roped in to make these crackers in factories are very young (6 to 8 yrs) and by the time they are 14 they're fingers get eaten up and they are unable to even hold a pen to write.
"I have seen stray dogs and other street animals who get petrified with the sound of crackers. They don't have homes like we do to hide in! "I know all this sounds very morbid but I would like to tell everyone to have a very happy Diwali but try to be environment friendly this year," she concluded.
She didn't sound morbid to us…more like an endearing and charming girl whose mother had raised her right!
