The Palm Jumeirah has been cited as one of the newest icons of the world and the 1.5-billion-dollar Atlantis, The Palm, is set to be one of the most luxurious resorts in the Middle East, with 360 Degrees views of the ocean, restaurants from acclaimed chef's and a 11 million-litre marine habitat that is home to more than 65,000 animals.
More than 2,000 world celebrities are due to attend the event which has been dubbed by the local press as "the party of the decade."
On the night of this majestic opening, Kylie Minogue will be performing for all the guests and Palm Jumeirah Island will be lit up in a giant fireworks display that will be "seven times larger than this year's Olympic Games opening ceremony" in Beijing and will be "visible from space", according to the event organizers.
The event will cost a hefty 20 million dollars, said Sol Kerzner, the South African billionaire, hotel and gambling tycoon, who is organizing the bash.
"We built something that's quite extraordinary. We've got to tell the world about it," Kerzner told AFP about the lavish hotel which was built through a joint venture with giant local developer Nakheel.
