Akshay is charged with obscenity for having let his wife, Twinkle Khanna, unzip him while he was on the ramp at Tarun Tahiliani's Levi's show on March 30 during Lakme Fashion Week.
Anil Nair, who claims to be a social activist, complained to the police that Akshay performed an "obscene" act in full public view.
"We arrested him under Indian Penal Code Section 294, which deals with obscenity in public. Since it is a bailable offense, he was released on bail," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Arvind Mahabadhi.
The police will now investigate the case and based on the outcome a charge sheet may be filed, adds Mahabadhi.
On his return to Mumbai, Akshay joked, “The news blew up when I was away.
"I just want to make it home from the airport without my car being egged by all those who have never been unbuttoned by their wives."
In early April, Akshay’s wife, Twinkle Khanna, was arrested by the Vakola police, in Mumbai after she surrendered in the presence of her lawyer Bhairav Choudhary.
Twinkle had then informed the police that her husband was abroad and would surrender on his return.
