June 07, 2009, (Sawf News) - Akshay Kumar owns up to a colorful past as a bachelor but says he treads the straight and narrow as a married man, though the media links him to any actress he work with.
“Before I got married, I was a man and after I got married, I became a married man,” Akshay tells Mumbai Mirror in an interview.
“So it's not that the reputation was not true, it was very much, but what's wrong with that. I thank my stars that I am a man. And whatever relationships I have had in my life kabhi kisi se zor zabardasti ke saath kiya nahin. It is a known fact.”
Akshay, who married actress Twinkle Khanna, daughter of leading Bollywood stars Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna, laughs off the tabloid media’s proclivity to link him with his leading ladies even now, pointing out that he is not the only victim.
“I am linked with anyone I work with. The media has become very strong, they can write whatever they want. I read and laugh about it. They connect me with anyone, anyhow and they do that with everyone. It's not that I am the only one. It's part and parcel of the game.”
Elsewhere in the interview…
His most memorable moments in life?
The birth of his sister, Alka, when he was 5-year-old; the day he missed his modeling assignment because he thought it was at 6 PM when it was actually at 6 AM; and the release of his recent block buster hit Singh is Kinng, the first production from his banner Hari Om Entertainment, named after my father.
His idol in his formative years life?
His father.
His idol now?
Danny Denzongpa, because he works on his own terms and conditions finding time for himself and his family.
“He is happy and content with whatever he has. He has a lovely place and a lovely family,” says Akshay.
On the competition he faces in the industry
“I don’t like competition. I know it’s supposed to be healthy, but I don’t like it at all. I hate it. I don’t compete. There are far more films than there are actors so what’s to compete for? I don’t understand.”
On how far he would go to get ahead of someone?
“I don’t want to go anywhere, let alone how far? I’m totally content in my life and space. Even when I became the highest tax-payer, it was said that I had beaten so and so... I mean, I just do so many films and that is why I have to pay so much tax.”
Akshay says he likes to work with people that he is comfortable working with but that does not mean he has a camp.
On how he manages to do so many films in a year.
“I work on four to five films and I go for a holiday every three months. When I work, I just work, I go on time, I come on time. Actually, it does not take more than 45 to 50 days to finish a film if the director knows his job, if the producer is given everything and if an actor comes on time and works for 10 hours a day.”
