June 14, 2009, (Sawf News) - Sonam Kapoor made her debut on stage with a delightful performance at the star studded 10th Idea IIFA Awards at Venetian Macao Resorts in Macau in China on June 13.
She wore an Anamika Khanna creation - glittery red and black harem pants paired with a matching short sleeve blouse revealing her midriff - and regaled the audiences cavorting to the song Masakali from her last release Dilli-6.
Sonam, who turned 24 on June 9, flew into Macau on June 10, the same day as her father Anil Kapoor. However, the Bollywood up-and-comer went her own separate way at the event, asserting her independent identity in Bollywood, in contrast to the Bachchans who always hung out together.

The night earlier at the IIFA Fashion Extravaganza, Sonam walked the ramp for designer and friend Anamika Khanna in a Rajasthani makeover wearing a heavily embellished asymmetrical lehenga choli.
Others performers of the night included Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu and Anushka Sharma, Sushmita Sen, Govinda and Neil Nitin Mukesh.
The five hour Awards show, which ended at 5 am on Sunday morning, also included a Cirque du Soleil circus performance, skits, movie spoofs, and an impromptu antakshri among those sitting in the VIP enclosure.

Sonam’s enthusiasm is infectious and her unguarded candor endearing. She readily admits that she aspires to be a star, not just an actress.
"For me, stardom is a new and novel experience... it's lovely. That's why I became a film actor... I wanted that... I wanted to act and be something. If I only wanted to be an actor, I would have done theatre. But I actually wanted to be a star and I make no bones about that."
