Tentatively titled Khatta Meetha, the film is to be helmed by Priyadarshan.
Deepika Padukone debuted in Shah Rukh Khan's home production, Om Shanti Om, and South actress Asin made her Bollywood debut with Aamir Khan's Ghajini.
Trisha, 26, debuted in the Tamil film Leysa Leysa (2002) directed by Priyadarshan, who recommended the actress to Akshay Kumar.
Akshay Kumar was impressed by Trisha's performance in her Tamil film, Abhiyum Naanum.
Trisha is thrilled with her second big break in films.
"Priyadarshan introduced me to films. Now once again he is giving me a new dimension through his Hindi movie. I'm glad that Priyan has given me this opportunity and all I want is to do my best."
Trisha rose to fame with Varsham (2004) in Telugu. She appeared in Mani Ratnam's Aayitha Ezhuthu which was remade into a hit Hindi movie Yuva starring Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Esha Deol.
She recently replaced Rani Mukerji as the Brand Ambassador of Fanta India, and Preity Zinta as brand ambassadors of Scooty Pep+ and Perk chocolate.
