Sanjay Dutt in a scene from Munna Bhai MBBS CNN-IBN has reported that underworld don Abu Salem's confession to the police, which has just been made public, implicates bollywood film star Sanjay Dutt for trafficking in illegal weapons. The 84 page confession document admits that Salem was driving the white Maruti van which was used to deliver arms to Sanjay Dutt.
Abu Salem's lawyer stated on camera that he will be contesting the confession on the grounds that it was taken under duress. He also contends that the validity of the confession notwithstanding Salem was not culpable since he merely drove the van oblivious of the lethal contents of the cargo that he delivered to Sanjay Dutt. Salem, the lawyer said, was under the impression that he was delivering a consignment of silver.
In his confession Salem has stated that on reaching Sanjay Dutt's house, the actor removed 3 out of the 9 guns from the van. This part of the confession could be very damaging for the film star, making it difficult for him to deny culpability.
Salem, his accomplice Riyaz Siddiqui who was arrested in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case and Sajay Dutt were present in the special TADA court on Wednesday.
There are speculations that Sanjay Dutt may be questioned once again by the police in the light of the new evidence that has surfaced against him. The charges currently filed against him may also be then revised.
