February 19, 2009, (Sawf News) - Gilles Mendel presented the J. Mendel collection on day six of the New York Fashion Week on Wednesday, February 18 at the Bryant Park tents.
The Paris bred designer, who has reinvented the concept of fur in the legacy of this fifth generation family fur house, kept up the tradition with subtle appearance of fur in a few coats, boleros and jackets. Two reversible jackets were displayed with black satin outside and white mink inside.
The evening wear was slim, sleek and sexy in bold colors of purple, cobalt, violet, burnt orange and black. The styles included strapless, single shoulder, draped and some of them with intricate backs.
There was a welcome inclusion of day wear which was crafted with as much dexterity as Mendel's famous evening gowns. The styles included skinny pants, slim skirts, figure flattering dresses and jackets that included cropped, slim fitting, boleros and vests.
The impeccably neat hair and makeup of the models was carefully planned for a modern yet simple look to go perfectly well with the collection. Red lips that gave a timeless classic look contrasted with sans blush face and bold colored dresses.
All the models had hair pulled back tightly with side parting and tied at the back in a high pony tail with an additional band at the middle of the pony.
The red soles of the Christian Louboutin shoes worn by the models added to the dramatic display when they walked on the snow white runway.
