February 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - Donna Karan's Fall 2009 collection at the New York Fashion Week at the Bryant Park was one of her best in years.
Be it dresses, cut separates, coats or blazers the tailoring and the silhouette was impeccable. Draped styles with big shoulders and belted waists were clearly the statement of the season.
There were no bare shoulders in the classic but sexy collection. Pencil skirts below the knees, wide pants with wrapped tops, cowl neck, cuffs with details and draped evening gowns with trains took the 1950s look to a new level.
Fur was not a banned item anymore. Shearing enhanced many a dresses and accessories.
Rust, red, blue, violet, grey and black were the dominating colors. A broad choice of materials ranged from silk, satin to jersey, tweed, suede, shearing and fur.
The models' makeup was carefully planned to match the modern no fuss look. Eyes were the focus with wet look glossy sepia eye shadow enhanced with gold specks riding all the way up to the eyebrows. Upper cheekbone and the nose bridge were highlighted with creamy pearl highlighter and neutral lip color with top arc of the lips highlighted to reflect the light well on the face.
All the models had their hair slicked down with side parting with one ear covered styled in an updo decorated with lots of black U pins half popping out.
Donna Karan is the fashion designer and the creator of the DKNY (Donna Karan New York) clothing label.
