Singer and actress Katie Cassidy has reportedly been picked to play the role of Lucy Ewing role in the forthcoming film Dallas based on the similarly named popular TV drama of the 80s.
Katie, daughter of David Cassidy a pop idol of the 70's and Sherry Benedon a former model, plays the role of Samantha in the comedy Click that is currently doing brisk business at the Box office. She will next be seen in the comedy drama Walk the Talk.
If the report by tmz.com is true Cassidy will be joining John Travolta as J.R. Ewing and Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen two Hollywood stars who are already in negotiations with the producers of the film.
Katie, 20, has perhaps beaten the more fancied Jessica Simpson and Kristin Cavallari for the coveted role because her age corresponds more closely with that of Lucy Ewing in the TV drama.
Dallas is the story of J.R. Ewing, the patriarch of a Texas oil family, who heads the most powerful energy company in the world. The drama focuses on the family's dubious business deals and politics.
The film is to be directed by the talented Gurinder Chadha who brought to us the endearing football based romantic comedy drama Bend it Like Beckham (2002). The film focused on the teenaged daughter of devout UK based Sikh parents, who bucks the traditionalism of her parents by donning shorts to play professional football, exposing not just her legs as her parents believed, but her immense talent and her strong resolve.
