Washington, Sept 8: Director Brian DePalma is reportedly eyeing actor Nicolas Cage to play the lead in his upcoming project, a prequel to his 1987 Oscar winner The Untouchables.
The Untouchables, which raked in 75 million dollars in the US box-office, is one of DePalma's most successful films and also kick-started the careers of Kevin Costner and Andy Garcia. Based on a script by David Mamet, the movie got four Academy Award nominations, and earned Sean Connery a trophy for best supporting actor.
On being asked by Zap2it as to why he is making the prequel, the director said, "Well, because my producer was working on this idea while I was [on the Dahlia set in Sofia, Bulgaria] and it was basically about the rise of Al Capone and his relationship with the Sean Connery character before Eliot Ness and we came up with a very good script and that's why,"
He also revealed that project has been tentatively titled The Untouchables: Capone Rising.
"We're thinking we can maybe get Nic Cage to play Al Capone and we've got to get a young Sean Connery," he added.
DePalma is currently promoting his latest film, The Black Dahlia, which will hit US theatres on Friday, Sept. 15. (ANI)
