London, March 7: A cloak worn by Sir Alec Guinness in Star Wars has been sold for a whopping 54,000 pounds at an auction of cinema and TV outfits in London.

The amount that the plain brown robe, which went missing for three decades, has fetched is even higher than the earlier estimates that suggested its sale might conclude at 40,000 pounds.

While the cloak seen on the sci-fi film's Obi-Wan Kenobi character was missing, it was loaned to other films, including The Mummy in 1999.

Tom Baker's Doctor Who costume comprising of a burgundy coat, brown tweed trousers and striped scarf were sold for 24,600 pounds, 12 times the anticipated sum, while Batman and Robin costumes worn in Only Fools and Horses fetched 10,200 pounds.

The memorabilia exhibition included Sir Sean Connery's dinner jacket from the James Bond movie Thunderball, which was sold for 30,900 pounds. A Navy battle dress jacket worn by Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me also went under the hammer for 10,880 pounds.

According to the BBC, among the 350 lots being sold by London-based costume maker Angels were a full outfit of William Wallace, associated with Mel Gibson in the film Braveheart. It reached 23,200 pounds, while a metal knight's helmet worn by Terry Jones in Monty Pythonand the Holy Grail came with a price tag of 11,100 pounds.

Angels said that it auctioned the stuff for clearing the space in its warehouse and lowering its insurance costs.

Bonhams auction house transformed its salesroom into a celebrity's dressing room to give prospective buyers the chance to try on their favorite costumes.

Costumes from the Indiana Jones films, the Harry potter series and Titanic and Madonna’s dresses from Evita were among other highlights from the collection. (ANI)
