Washington, July 14 (ANI): Oscar-nominated singer Janet Jackson has broken her long-time association with British entrepreneur Richard Branson’s recording label Virgin Records, in order to join her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri at The Island Def Jam Music Group.
Dupri has revealed that his record label’s CEO Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid will now be masterminding Janet’s career.
"I let him deal with that on a day-to-day basis... Janet's record is one that he's wanted to do for a long time. He's very passionate about it," the producer told Billboard.com.
The poor sales of Janet’s last two albums, and Dupri’s departure from Virgin to become the president of Island Urban last year, had already sparked rumors that the ‘Nasty’ singer might also quit the label.
Dupri is content with Reid taking control of Janet’s career because he is too busy with the recording of Mariah Carey’s next album to give his full attention to his girlfriend.
"I'm going to do Mariah, and we're going to make it seem like we're in competition to see who's going to have the biggest album of the year," he said. (ANI)
