LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Obama -- currently locked in a fierce contest with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination -- was named among five nominees in the music industry award show's best spoken word album category.
The Illinois senator earned a nod for his audio version of his book "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream."
By the time the Grammys are held in Los Angeles on February 10, Obama's hopes of earning the Democratic nomination may well have been decided following a string of primary and caucus battles beginning in January.
Bill Clinton meanwhile was nominated for his reading "Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World," his best-selling guide to how individuals can contribute to worthy causes.
But Clinton and Obama may face strong competition from the three other nominees, which include another former president, Jimmy Carter. Carter, the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize winner, was nominated for his "Sunday Mornings in Plains: Bringing Peace to a Changing World."
Other nominees included Maya Angelou for "Celebrations" and actor Alan Alda for "Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself."
