BERLIN (AFP) - The film recounts the clashes between Indians and explorers in 17th century America and is the fourth by the director of "The Thin Red Line".
Malick won the prestigious Golden Bear in Berlin in 1999 for that box office hit, but his latest release is not among the 26 films to be shown in competition at the 2006 Berlinale.
These include "Candy" from Australian director Neil Armfield and "The Elementary Particles", German director Oskar Roehler's screen adaptation of French author Michel Houellebecq's best-selling novel.
The organisers said the festival will host the world premieres of six films.
One of them is the martial arts extravaganza "The Promise" by director Chein Kaige which is considered to be the most expensive Chinese film ever made.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to present new films by famous directors as well as productions by young filmmakers," festival director Dieter Kosslick said.
