November 20, 2008, (Sawf News) - Roland Emmerich directed post-apocalyptic Sci-fi thriller 2012 stars an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. The film will be released on July 10, 2009.
Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver. The visual effects in the film are given by Sony Pictures Imageworks. The estimated budget for the film was $200 million.
The world is devastated by a cataclysm with the Mayan calendar ending in the year 2012, leaving a small group of survivors to struggle for their lives through natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers.
John Cusack plays Jackson Curtis, a divorced writer who occasionally works as a limousine driver and Amanda Peet as Kate, Jackson's ex-wife. Thomas McCarthy plays as Kate's current boyfriend. Danny Glover as President Wilson, the President of the United States. Thandie Newton as the First Daughter. Chiwetel Ejiofor as Adrian Helmsley plays scientific adviser to the President.
Woody Harrelson is featured as the man who prophesies the end of the world and is considered crazy by others. Harrelson compared his character to the mythological Greek figure Cassandra, whose predictions were dismissed.
