December 26, 2008, (Sawf News) - Jennifer Aniston starring Marley & Me topped the box office, ahead of Brad Pitt's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button over Christmas Day, with both films performing impressively.

Twentieth Century Fox's Marley & Me, headlining Aniston and Owen Wilson, rang in $ 14.6 million on 3,480 screens, the best ever performance for Christmas Day release.

Paramount's Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, came in second with an impressive $11.8 million, on 2,988 screens. A favorite amidst critics, the film has won five Golden Globe nominations.

Both the films did 40% to 50% more business than forecast by box office gurus.

Their good box office collections appear even more impressive when viewed in the context of the crowded field, with a record five Christmas Day releases, which included Disney family title Bedtime Stories, toplining Adam Sandler ($10.5 million from 3,651 theaters), United Artists/MGM's Valkyrie starring Tom Cruise ($8.5 million on 2,711 screens) and Lionsgate's The Spirit ($4 million on 2,509 screens).
