January 23, 2009, (Sawf News) - Penelope Cruz says she didn't expect her Oscar nomination and is grateful to Woody Allen for having given her the role.
"I feel very grateful that Woody [Allen] gave me this character that I love so much -- and then all these other things are happening that I didn't expect at all when I was making the movie," Penélope says.
Cruz, is a nominee for best performance by an actress in a supporting role for the film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She is competing for the Oscar against Amy Adams (Doubt), Viola Davis (Doubt), Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler).
She says she celebrated her nomination with her famous friend Salma Hayek, who was "really, really, really happy for me."
Cruz was earlier nominated for best performance by an Actress in a leading role for Volver (2006).
