February 22, 2009, (Sawf News) - Pedro Almodóvar helmed and penned Spanish thriller, Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos), toplines Penélope Cruz, Lluís Homar and Blanca Portillo.
Sony Pictures Classics has released a 35 second long teaser trailer for the film.
The $15 million budget film is co-produced by Pedro's producer brother Agustin Almodovar.
Filming was done in Madrid and the Canary Islands beginning May 9. It is due for release on March 20, 2009 with a two days earlier release in Spain on March 18.
The film is set in the 1990s and present day. It centers on a four-way tale of crazy love, and was shot in the style of a hard-boiled 1950s American film noir. The film will mix stylistic references to films such as Nicholas Ray's In a Lonely Place and Vincente Minnelli's The Bad and the Beautiful with signature Almodovar themes: "Fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, unscrupulous power, the eternal search of fathers for sons, and sons for fathers.
Cruz plays a struggling actress from Spain.
