April 09, 2009, (Sawf News) - Smoke disrupted Britney Spears' Vancouver concert on Wednesday, April 9, prompting her and her performers to leave the stage for nearly 30 minutes, shortly after the start of her performance.
The prolonged break made the crowd in the sold out GM Place stage restive, and elicited chants of "Britney, Britney, Britney" and some howls and boos.
The stage remained in darkness for nearly 15 minutes before an announcement cleared the suspense.
"It’s become uncomfortable and unsafe for the performers, including Ms. Spears," a voice said, eliciting big boos from the crowd. "The show will resume as soon as the air around the stage is clear."
"The performance will not proceed until the air clears."
Finally, Britney came back and her high energy level slowly revived the deflated spirit of the crowd.
"What’s up Vancouver" she said, speaking to the crowd for the first time.
The rest of the concert went through smoothly. At the end of the show, after performing Womanizer, when Britney bowed before the crowd and thanked them not many in the audience were still fretting about the disruption.
As Britney darted off the stage she muttered.
"Drive safe, don't smoke weed and rock out with your c**ks out! Peace mother f**kers!"
