McG directed and John Brancato penned science fiction war film is the fourth in the Terminator franchise and stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anton Yelchin. Supporting cast includes Moon Bloodgood, Common, Helena Bonham Carter and Roland Kickinger.
The gripping preview starts with Marcus Wright standing on a hilltop overlooking the post apocalyptic Los Angeles. He asks Kyle Reece, "What Year", Kyle says, '2018' and Wright asks "What happened here?" This is followed by fast paced action, explosions and the arrival of John Connor to begin his fights against the killing machines.
The film is set in 2018 and focuses on the war between humanity and the machines employed by Skynet. It makes a departure from earlier films in the franchise where the Terminator and various other characters time-traveled to the present to protect or kill John Connor.
The film revolves around the development of the Model 101 Terminator and begins in a manner that does not require audiences to have seen the previous films. The story is a bit of a sequel and a prequel to get you started.
Christian Bale plays John Connor who is now in his early thirties. The battle-experienced leader of the human resistance is waging war against Skynet after it has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust.
Sam Worthington as Marcus Wright is a decommissioned Terminator, who befriends John and Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin ). His last memory is of being on death row, and Connor is unsure of whether Wright is from the past or the future.
Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, a "no-nonsense and battle-hardened" pilot in the resistance suffering from survivor guilt will be the romantic interest of Marcus.
Kyle Reese is a teenaged soldier and admirer of John Connor. In The Terminator, to ensure the survival of the human race, he was sent back in time to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor, and he conceived John with her.
Bryce Dallas Howard as John's wife, Kate Connor, is helping him build his resistance. Australian born Roland Kickinger plays the prototype T-800. He plays Arnold's character in the first Terminator, establishing how the Terminator came about 20 years ago.
The film is scheduled for release on May 22, 2009.
