May 15, 2009, (Sawf News) - Rob Marshall directed musical film Nine stars an ensemble cast of Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench, and Sophia Loren, with Kate Hudson and Stacy Ferguson in supporting roles.
The film is due for release on November 25, 2009.
The screenplay, by the late Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin (although Minghella receives sole credit), is based on Arthur Kopit's book for the 1982 Tony Award-winning musical of the same name, which was derived from an Italian play by Mario Fratti inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½.
Music has been scored by Maury Yeston who also wrote the lyrics for the songs.
Having reached the age of forty, director Guido Contini is facing a midlife crisis that is stifling his creativity and leading him into a variety of complicated romantic involvements. As he struggles to complete his latest film, he is forced to balance the numerous formative women in his life, including his wife Luisa (Marion Cotillard), his mistress Carla (Penélope Cruz), his muse and protégé Claudia (Nicole Kidman), his producer Liliane (Judi Dench), and his mother (Sophia Loren).
