May 19, 2009, (Sawf News) - Miley Cyrus is being considered for the lead role of Ariel Moore in the remake of the 1984 musical romance drama Footloose.
The film’s producers have “expressed interest in Miley for the part,” a source close to Miley told E! Online.
Miley "is definitely in the mix," confirms a production source.
Zac Efron was to play the lead role of Ren McCormack, a city boy who comes to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned, but dropped out to take a break from musicals. Chace Crawford, of Gossip Girl fame, has since screen tested. Other contenders include Derek Hough, of Dancing with the Stars.
Amanda Bynes, Hayden Panettiere and Julianne Hough, also of Dancing with the Stars, have all recently auditioned for the role of Ariel Moore, the independent minded daughter of Reverend Shaw Moore who is responsible for keeping the town dance-free.
Miley hasn’t auditioned, presumably because her singing, dancing and crowd pulling skills are well proven.
Miley is set to start shooting for The Last Song on June 15 in Georgia, a film specially penned for her by novelist Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook).
The Footloose remake is slated to hit theatres on June 18, 2010, which may make if difficult for Miley to find time for the project.
