July 02, 2009, (Sawf News) - The number of unreleased Michael Jackson songs is so large that new albums could be released for years.
Sony Music owns the distribution rights to the songs which include many unused tracks from his previous albums, as well as Michael's recent recordings with Akon and will.i.am.
"There are dozens and dozens of songs that did not end up on his albums," Tommy Mottola, chairman and CEO of Sony Music from 1998 to 2003, tells AP. "People will be hearing a lot of that unreleased material for the first time ever. There's just some genius and brilliance in there."
Michael Jackson Album releases "could go on for years and years – even more than Elvis," adds Tommy.
The interest in Michael's music has spurted following his death with 2.3 million track downloads in the US alone. Three of his albums - Number Ones, Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller – topped the chart this week.
The Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am recently told UK's Mirror that the two worked together in a studio in Ireland on a dance music album that "demanded all the people to the dance floor."
"I was very proud of it. But he was very protective and kept it under lock and key," he says.
"After we made it I had to hand back every demo.
"He was a perfectionist and didn’t want anyone to hear it until it was ready."
Akon was due to work on an album with Michael after his London concerts. They completed just one song – Hold My Hand - which leaked last year.
"All the other songs were just ideas," Akon said.
"It was all positive records — songs to uplift people, songs to make people think about the problems in life," Akon said. "It was all about bringing people together."
