Some designers follow the latest trends, while others set them. Heatherette is definitely the latter. The spring line mixed up color, sparkle, and glitter, and as usual, put its creators above the rest with innovative designs and a little help from their friends.

Heatherette, the design team of Richie Rich and Traver Rains, was established in 1999 in the pair’s New York living room. Rich, a former figure skater, and Rains, a former equestrian, each brought a spirit of showmanship and high-octane glamour to the partnership, which is reflected in every collection the duo creates. The philosophy behind Heatherette, is that it is “not a business, but a lifestyle”.

“Passport to Paradise” was the theme for the spring show, a show highlighted by socialite-model sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton of the famed Hilton hotel chain. Paris goes on holiday to a tropical island, gets kidnapped by pirates and gypsies and then finally gets saved by her model groom at the end. She opened the show with a low-cut animal-print chiffon dress with keyhole neckline, bouffant hairstyle and matching pumps.

Most of the line consisted of lace-chiffon dresses splashed with sequins and crystals, lined with tulle underskirts, and asymmetrically-cut hemlines. Beachwear was also included with flashy sarongs, pareos and bikinis. Towards the middle of the show was more holidaywear: a pair of short lavender shorts held up by white suspenders and paired with a striped violet tunic in cotton.

Sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton walked the runway in striped polo shirts, matching drawstring shorts and high heels. Most of the dressier clothes were splattered with gold, black or white. The show concluded with younger sister Nicky in a low-cut strapless tuxedo dress leading a group of swimsuit-clad models and for the finale Paris, wearing a short blue sequined bridal gown and carrying a bouquet of red flowers, walked the runway with her groom in a black suit.
