22 Feb. 2007 (Sawf News) - Earth-friendly celebrities took to the green carpet on February 21, 2007 at the Avalon in Hollywood, California for the Global Green 3rd Annual Pre-Oscar Celebration to Benefit Global Warming. The mood was casual and laidback and the stars reflected that in their choice of styles. Dresses were short and accessories if any, were minimal. It was a refreshing change from the formal atmosphere of recent A-list events.
Two A-listers in particular stuck out in our minds, one for her innate sense of style and the other for heaven knows what?
Little Miss Petra Nemcova
Hot off the success of her Infinite Heart jewelry line is supermodel Petra Nemcova. The runway star gams it up without going overboard in a cool blue frock and towering heels. We love this dress for what it’s not. And it’s so in keeping with the earth-toned theme. It’s not pretentious. It’s not a “hey I am a supermodel everyone drool over me” kind of dress. She knows she’s already got singer James Blunt for that.
It’s not a dress where she feels the need to flaunt her too-perfect figure. It’s more like, I survived one of the earth’s biggest catastrophies and man am I grateful.
A top model like Nemcova isn’t just there for her looks. I mean that’s the main thing, but a top model knows how to announce herself without actually doing it. She also knows she’s got enough buzz about her not to have to overshadow the real star here, the global green. So while she’s swimming in a sea of compliments in that blue number, you know just why.

Penelope Cruz was a virtual unknown until she met Tom Cruise on the sets of Vanilla Sky. Then suddenly, her A-list status was catapulted from that affair and we couldn’t get enough of her. That smooth complexion, that hot Spanish accent, the cascades of brown hair falling over her face, need we say more? She has graced many a red carpet and indeed, was so darn good at it, even Ralph Lauren had her selling his line.
An A-list designer plus an A-list actress, it just doesn’t get any better than that. Which leads us to our dilemma, how do you go from that to this? The one-shouldered brown debacle with uneven hemline is just a fashion don’t. As in don’t wear it. Don’t cover yourself in badly cut brown fabric, no matter how noble the cause. Because this is Hollywood, people have long memories when it comes to lame clothing. They are going to say, remember when Penelope wore that awful tan-colored thing to some charity event? Or better yet, it could spark rumors that the fashion industry is experiencing a shortage of well-made clothing and our fair maiden Penelope got lumbered with this sad looking dress. She matches it with some equally strange black shoes which don’t do much for the outfit because with all of that drape, it becomes overkill.
Now, Penelope is obviously one hot face and figure. Not to mention an Oscar-nominated actress. Those two things make us hope she comes to her senses by Monday and give her stylist the sack. (Don’t wear it!)
