London, Oct 16: Pop diva Madonna had reportedly bought a $9000 (5,000 pounds) rocking horse for newly adopted son David Banda, even before flying to Malawi to meet the deprived child for the first time.
Although 13-month-old David is too young to ride the toy, Madonna was hoping to present it to him this week, but now she will have to wait to give it to him as human rights groups in Malawi plan to launch a protest against her adoption in court on Monday (Oct 16).
Madonna loved the designs and staff were told the horse was for someone “very special”.
“These rocking horses are hand made and top spec. They are beautiful, traditional toys,” the Sun quoted a worker from the shop as saying.
Last Thursday Madonna and her 38-year-old film director husband, Guy Ritchie had hoped to leave Malawi with David after a court granted an interim order allowing the child to leave the country for up to a year.
The couple were ready to fly back to Britain in their private jet when problems arose, reportedly over difficulties in arranging a passport for the child. After waiting for three hours on the tarmac negotiating with immigration officials, the boy was taken back to the luxury lodge where multi-millionaire Madonna had stayed during her nine day visit to the impoverished southern African country.
Under Malawian law, non-residents adopting a Malawian child usually have to live in the country for 18 months and are monitored by social workers before they get full adoption rights, but Madonna steamrolled authorities and her application was fast-tracked.
Human rights groups in the country have now joined together to try to prevent what they claim are efforts to allow her to fast-track the process and sidestep regulations.
Madonna already has two kids, daughter Lourdes, 9, and the Richie’s son Rocco, 5. (ANI)
