Melbourne, Oct 19: Director Tim Burton has reportedly cast actress Helena Bonham Carter as the female lead in his big screen version of the Stephen Sondheim’s musical Sweeney Todd.
She will play the role of Mrs. Lovett - a murderess who dispenses her victims' bodies in meat pies, and becomes the passionate accomplice of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, played by Johnny Depp, reports Moviehole.
Carter, who is Burton's real life partner, has earlier starred in Burton-directed films such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish and Planet of the Apes.
While Carter and Depp have starred in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together, the duo has also voiced characters in Burton's animated film Corpse Bride.
Media reports have suggested that British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen will be joining the cast as rival barber Signor Adolfo Pirelli, but the studio has not confirmed the news yet.
Shooting for the film begins early next year for a late 2007 release. (ANI)
