Cruise's unsolicited, scientology inspired slamming of Brooke Shields in May 2005 for taking antidepressants to cope with her postpartum depression was an important feature of the odd behavior that eventually led to his alienation from fans, specially females. Many believe it was also the reason the superstar was ousted from Paramount Pictures after a 14-year relationship.
However, Cruise eventually apologized in Aug 2006 for his uncalled for rant. Lately his fiancee Katie Holmes and Brooke Shields have become good friends. Both of them share a special bond - of being new celebrity mother who gave birth on 18 April (06) at the same Los Angeles hospital - Shields gave birth to second daughter Grier, while Holmes gave birth to daughter Suri.
Skeptics are, however, not convinced that Cruise's apology and the new found friendship between Holmes and Shields reflect a genuine change of heart on the part of Cruise. They are inclined to believe that the Mission Impossible star is merely using Holmes to win back his lost fans.
Shields who plans to attend the wedding, obviously thinks otherwise.
