Peter O’Toole in Venus (2006)

New York, Feb. 26: Despite being rejected for an Oscar for the eighth time, Irish actor Peter O’Toole insists on not leaving the race for the award ever in his life.

The 74-year-old star was speaking at a party thrown by Miramax President Daniel Battsek for his company’s nominees.

"I've always enjoyed it. I turn into a tourist. I look up at the Hollywood sign and say, 'My God, it's the Hollywood sign! Look, there's Sunset Blvd.!'" the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

The Venus actor might have been given an honorary Oscar, but he still covets the standard-issue gold statue.

"I always care," he said.

O’Toole also indicated that he considered writing an acceptance speech for an award ceremony to be a bad idea.

"It's folly for anyone to write a speech, and yet we all do - in our minds," he said.

"I remember talking to Richard Burton about this very same thing. His began, 'This is a race which I did not enter ...' Or something like that. Of course he never won the bloody thing," he added.

He, however, said that if ever he was honored with an Oscar Award, he would keep his celebrations within his limits.

"The normal way - open a bottle of liquid light," he said, caressing a goblet of red wine, but perhaps not so much as in past years. "I'm an old man. I know my limits." (ANI)
