2 March 2007 (Sawf News) - Brooks Shields, who suffered postpartum depression following the birth of her first daughter Rowan Francis, is concerned tabloid media focus could be aggravating Britney's condition.
In a been there, done that talk with Access Hollywood at an event in New York last night, Brook was asked if she felt Britney Spears was suffering from postpartum.
Before responding Brooke first chose to emphasize the possible adverse impact of tabloid media focus on Britney's condition.
"She's followed every moment of her life and she's documented every minute of her life…If I had been when I was going through postpartum, you probably would have more to talk about… So if that is in fact the case, I don't doubt it," Shields noted.
If Britney is suffering from postpartum Brooke said, "then it really needs to be reckoned with and it's very common and she'll get through it."
"I hope she's fine, but I believe she's going to be fine and she just needs the support and her kids, she's their only mom and she'll earn that back in her own mind," she added,
Britney Spears has reportedly been reading Brooke Shield's book "Down Came the Rain," to cope with her postpartum depression.
"If she's reading my book, I hope it's helping her. If it's not and she wants to talk to someone, I'm available," Shields said.
We feel Brooke's reaction to Britney's postpartum depression, has been a lot more positive and helpful than that of Tom Cruise in her case. The Scientologist at large infamously criticized Brooke on national TV for taking medical treatment to cope with her condition and instead advocated she convert to Scientology!

I think Britney should stay in rehab so she can get away from all the Media...it's enough to make anyone go a little crazy at times...imagine being followed everyday and every move...that's just insane...i wish for her they would JUST LEAVE HER ALONE! Britney is a great girl you could say she is still an innocent girl, she seems genuinely kind and it seems she has been taken advantage of because of this.
My message to Britney...it's okay she's not alone their are so many people in her shoes it's just too bad that the world needs to be there when she is trying to recover. We love you Britney and pray for you to get stronger everyday so that you can be the best Mom that you are to your children again.
Have faith Britney...we're counting on you!!!!

I agree, leave Britney alone and give her a chance to recuperate. I don't think she is the best singer in the world and I would question her intelligence, but give her a chance folks!
Brooke Shields has my utmost respect and admiration. She is very intelligent.. and has been through a lot herself. She knows how to "keep her nose clean" and be a help, not a hindrance. I would respect her opinion on the issues of Britney. Thus we don't need an "expert" like Tom Cruise" to tell us ladies about postpartum depression.. He needs to disappear from the ladies's forum and hang out with the men.

Dear SAWF News staff:
Your article is positive and I'm glad Brooke Shields has expressed her concern publicly for Spears' welfare.
But your portrayal of Tom Cruise's statements is grossly inaccurate.
Tom Cruise never advocated for Shields or anyone to "convert" to Scientology. In relation to Brooks' book, he never spoke about religion at all.
Also, Tom Cruise did not criticize medical treatment in any way.
The truth is that Tom Cruise opposed one single element of Brooke Shields' book "Down Came The Rain" - and that's the recommendation of the psychiatric drug "Paxil" as a solution to Post-Partum Depression.
Paxil is a dangerous, addictive drug with powerful side-effects. Many medical professionals advocate against the use of this drug. Specifically in the area of post-partum depression, the medical concern is that the body of a new mother is undergoing severe hormonal imbalances, and an anti-depressant would mask these imbalances, instead of solving them. A hormonal treatment, combined with good nutrition, proper rest and counseling, is a lot safer than an anti-depressant. This "quick-fix" anti-depressant could create a deadly cocktail insofar as masking the symptoms but not addressing the root of the problem.
Moreover, Paxil is linked to a large number of suicides and even some grizzly murders, such as Andrea Yates' drowning of her five children while suffering from depression and on Paxil.
Recently, the UK FDA banned the sale of Paxil to minors. In the U.S., black-box warnings are now required for Paxil and similar anti-depressants that state the dangers of violence and suicidal tendencies.
Tabloid rumor to the contrary, Tom Cruise has never been an evangelist for Scientology. He's simply commented on his own experience as a Scientologist, whenever talking about his own personal life.
And in regards specifically to Brooke Shields, Tom Cruise simply felt that it was irresponsible to advocate the use of a questionable drug without stating some possible legitimate medical concerns connected with this drug's use.
Scientologist and proud of it

With the proper therapy, medication and group therapy and online support and family and friends support she will get through this and be fine again. She just needs to find help for herself if not her family needs to find the help for her. I too went through postpartum anxiety/ocd its an ugly illness. Women don’t ask for this it happens. An what the media needs to understand is the more stressors she has in her life the wordt postpartum gets. The media needs to leave that girl alone and give her the privacy to heal and get well for her sake and her children’s well being. Postpartum can begin months after birth or up to a year after birth. I wish her and her family the best and God bless her and guide her to be herself again.

Brittani Spears is already on antidepressants, one is Paxil (we like to call it Paxhell for all it put us through). Paxil, combined with alcohol, can cause some people to do and say wildly uncharacteristic things, sometimes even violent and suicidal. Some legal prescription psych drugs like SSRI antidepressants (Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro and Zoloft) can change who a person is, cause them to lose sense of right and wrong. That little mechanism that we all have in our brains that tells us what's cool or uncool to say or do, seems to be undermined by the use of antidepressants. They can give a person an "I don't give a damn" feeling. That's how they "work". They don't make people happy, just zone them out so they don't really care about anything.
Maybe Brooke Shields was somehow helped by Paxil, but many, many are harmed and, like Brooke, go through hell trying to get off the stuff. I know, it happened to me too.
I'll bet anything that Brittani, who carries her Paxil with her and probably pops them like aspiring (just a guess) is acting so strangely because of the drug. I've been on Paxil withdrawal sites for years and have read countless stories about the weird stuff people did when they had even just one glass of wine. My own sister in law was found kneeling out in the middle of the road after she'd been on Zoloft for 2 weeks. Winona Ryder was on Zoloft when she shoplifted the clothing. There are thousands of these kinds of mini tragedies happening to thousands every day. Why isn't anyone talking about this?! Brittani admitted that she was taking antidepressants years ago. I don't doubt that she was on them when she first married and then married again. She's been acting strangely ever since she was prescribed the drugs. She's one of the "unlucky" ones like many of us.
